Assist local doctors in a medical centre located in an impoverished suburb
of Huancayo

The public hospital is located in the city and deals mainly with the impoverished residents of Huancayo. In this hospital there are many departments including paediatrics, obstetrics, gynaecology, dentistry, emergencies, surgery, psychology, gastroenterology, psychiatrics, etc.

Typically, volunteers work from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Many patients in the hospital were atended to in small medical centers outside of the city (25 minutes by small busses) but continue to need further treatment and are transferred to this hospital.

Volunteers can have the opportunity to work here alongside different consultants, doctors, nurses and patients. Through this rewarding experience, volunteers will gain an understanding of the medical system in Peru and, through using their own knowledge and skills, can contribute to help improve medical care to the less fortunate in the area.
